Patterns

What is a pattern?
“It keeps on repeating and never stops” – Grade 1 Student

The Grade One's have been learning about patterns. Students have explored pattern making using a variety of loose parts materials. Students have been challenged to make 3 and 4 part patterns and to use different attributes when designing their patterns.  Here are some of the patterns they created.

Together, we made a list of different attributes to be used when creating patterns.
“Well there are all types of patterns like shape patterns, and size patterns and colour patterns.” – Grade 1 Student

We also worked with partners to create movement patterns. Students made their patterns then represented them in drawings. "So we did snap, snap, turn, clap and would be AABC in letters." - Grade 1 Student
